I am extremely proud of how well the Centennial swimming and diving teams opened the 2016 season this weekend. After evaluating the meet I am very proud of how well we competed, and was pleasantly surprised by some great performances. Both the men and women have a lot of returning strength and some really great newcomers. We have had a great start this season, however we still have some gaps to fill and we need to swim like we have got something to prove (because we do).
Some standout performances came from Sophomore Daran Towns and Juniors Jenna Washburn and Sam Carlson. All three earned a pair of individual wins in Friday’s competition. Towns won the 200 and 500 freestyle, Washburn won the 100 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and Carlson won the 50 and 100 freestyle events. Single event winners were Freshman Shelby Drake (50 freestyle), Freshman Alex Castro (100 Breast) and Sophomore Josh Gutierrez (500 Free).
A lot of swimmers made automatic time standards for Valley in our very first weekend of competition. They are Daran Towns (50, 100, 200 and 500), Sam Carlson (50 Free), Jenna Washburn (100 Free and 100 Breast) and Shelby Drake (100 Back). Swimmers with consideration times are Shelby Drake (50 Free), Ellie Cruz (50 Free), Kaleb Kingston (50 Free), Kelly Washburn (100 Back), Alex Castro (100 Breast) and Heip Bui 100 Breast.
